Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! – 07

This episode was amazinguuu…

I particularly liked the way in which KyoAni introduced Rikka’s conflict into the story. First, by showcasing her unusually gloomy demeanor, then gradually revealing the sad past of the Takanashi family, and finally culminating in a emotionally charged battle between siblings. The series of events felt very natural, like it could have been the logical progression of an actual person. I guess what I’m trying to say is that: as a human, I found I could personally relate to a lot of moments in this episode. One example would be when Taichi placed his hand too close to Rikka’s and slowly moved it away to a comfortable distance. EVERYONE has done this at some point in time, and the inclusion of this seemingly insignificant detail gave the viewers something to identify with. This in turn created a feeling of “realness” in the characters, and is one of the main reasons why Chu2Koi stands lengths ahead of the rest of the pack.

I’ll save the discussion on Rikka for next week, but I never would have guessed that her “8th Grade Syndrome” was actually a coping mechanism. :[
