Robotics;Notes – 12
Summary:
The second semester starts for the Robot club. While Kai still wonders about the ominous call from Misaki, he ignores her warnings and continues to look for the Kimijima Reports. With some help, he begins work on #4. Meanwhile, Doc has an accident and it’s revealed that he’s Jun’s grandfather. In order to make him feel better, Aki and company want to revive all his old robots. Jun is hesitant since one of those robots toppled over and hurt her when she was a child, which caused her fear towards robots. While fixing the robots, Jun has a panic attack and runs away; the next day she files a formal withdrawal from the club and starts helping at the Karate Dojo. Aki and Kai end up finishing the job and bring Doc over to see them for nostalgia’s sake. He breaks down in tears seeing them all out and regrets the fact that it was his fault that caused Jun’s trauma, something that’s haunted him for more than a decade. Yoshiro, one of the robots, has some new commands and to Doc’s surprise, it’s Jun who is controlling it. They reconcile in a touching reunion.
Thoughts:
NEW OP! NEW ED! Same old Robotics;Notes. Well, I can’t really say that this was a terrible episode, but it certainly didn’t advance the storyline. Kai is continuing his search for the Kimijima Reports and Aki still wants to build a Gunbarrel lifesize replica. The only thing I’m glad about is that the Jun drama got resolved. I just wonder if Jun will develop some romantic feelings toward Kai, since after all, it was him to convinced her to try to overcome her fears one more time and reminded her of the fun times she had with the grandpa.
Now that the show is in its second half, I sure hope the suspense kicks it up a notch. At least Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate had some overarching dark suspense thrills… it’s just severely lacking in Robotics;Notes. Sometimes I feel like I’m watching a drama with this show with its slow pacing and lack of development. We need more Kai Time-control-power-syndrome-illness-attacks! I’ll take anything to make the show more interesting. Needs more Dyu hu hu hu…
With the way this show is going, I don’t know if they will animate Occultic;Nine (5pb’s next VN)… but they probably will. If someone has enough money to fund a 4th season of Minami-ke, it’s better spent on things like this… actually screw that! Give me my FSN Heaven’s Feel route anime or movie!
