Type-Moon’s Newest Novel: Fate/Apocrypha

The most exciting news for me from Comiket 83? Obviously Type-Moon’s newest expansion of their Fate Series, Fate/Apocrypha. For those unfamiliar with the Fate storyline, I highly recommend checking it out. I really enjoyed Fate/Zero’s anime and the deep Fate/Stay Night story (especially the Heaven’s Feel route). Although Fate/Apocrypha is a new take on the format of the Holy Grail War as opposed to FSN and F/Z, F/A seems like a much more intense battle with two sides of seven masters and servants battling it out for the Grail. Not only that, but it will be interesting to see what other historical/fantasy heroes emerge to be popular. For more information, you can check out the article on the Type-Moon wiki about the various new characters. I especially like Joan of Arc’s (aka Ruler) character design; no wonder Caster from F/Z mistakenly thought she was Saber, lol.
Interestingly, the original idea for Fate/Apocrypha was that it was going to be an MMO with the player being a Master and having a Servant follow them around. As fun and epic as that sounds, I’m glad that Type-Moon went with their tried and true formula of novellas instead. What if the game was all buggy and shit? I could just smell the haunting of a failed investment. If that happened, then where would my Tsukihime 2 funding come from? Can’t risk that!
