Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo – 08
Summary:
Sorata finally hears back from the competition, and it turns out that he was able to make it past the preliminary round. But the victory is short-lived as he turns his focus to prepare for the upcoming presentation on his game concept. Luckily for Sorata, everyone is more then willing to throw their harshest criticisms at him after his first practice speech, which drives him to work even harder.
Game day finally arrives, and Mashiro presents a lucky charm to Sorata to help him through his speech. But alas, the preparation was not enough. He completely botches the presentation and gets cut from the competition. Frustrated and disappointed with himself, he goes home to wallow in his own despair. But once again the Sakurasou crew comes through in the clutch and cheers him up with a night pool party.
Thoughts:
Ugh, it pains me how much I related to Sorata this episode. Watching him fumble in front of the judges brought back every bad memory I’ve had of presenting in front of people. It really sucks when you put so much effort into preparing your speech, and then it all gets thrown in the gutter from the get go. Nothing can completely prepare a person for the intimidating audience, the unexpected questions from left field, and the all-consuming feeling of anxiety one feels when they step up to the podium. The only thing that could possibly provide relief is experience, and the confidence that comes with it. Sadly, Sorata doesn’t have either of them yet. But he made the right decision in the end to keep pushing forward.
It looks like next week we’ll have a new guest in the form of Mashiro’s friend, Rita (according to Wikipedia), meaning we might actually get to see Ryunosuke in person.
