Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo – 05

After a couple of exciting episodes, Sakurasou has settled back into a normal pace. This episode focused mainly on Aoyama, her dwindling bank account, and her growing hunger. All of which led to her move to Sakurasou. But interestingly, or should I say uninterestingly enough, what sealed the deal for her was the thought of leaving Sorata alone with Mashiro. Hence her decision to take over Mashiro duty, as well as her stubborn refusal to accept any help from Sorata, despite already being swamped with part-time jobs, voice acting lessons, and school. I have no idea where she gets all of that motivation from, but I guess love can make people do some crazy things.

Speaking of love, the triangle is slowly starting to form, with Aoyama becoming more bold and awkward by the day, and Mashiro jumping into bed with Sorata in the middle of the night. But honestly at this point in time, I have no preference between the two; in fact, I dislike both of them equally. Sakurasou has done a good job of making both girls unappealing to me by pushing their personas to extremes. Aoyama is painfully normal and uninteresting, while Mashiro is… well, unique to say the very least. It’s not that I have a problem with that, quite the opposite actually. It gives both characters more space to grow as the series progresses, and as they get to know each other better, their qualities will begin to rub off on each other.

In many ways, this show is about coping with personal inadequacies. Sorata suffers from a lack of direction, Jin feels inferior when compared to Misaki, and even the mighty Mashiro is lacking when it comes to common sense. It can be painful to watch at times, but the end of the day, watching the residents of Sakurasou deal with their problems is what makes the show so great for me, and hopefully you as well.
