Zetman – 02
Thoughts:
Years have gone by and we find our protagonists as teenagers, and there is a rash of arson fires occurring in the city. In this episode, Konoha and Jin meet up again at the soup kitchen site where Konoha and her mother are helping out. Jin appears and saves Konoha from getting hurt in a scuffle between two men who were fighting due to one spilling the food of the other. She is pretty awed by this and is pleasantly surprised to see the Angel Ring on the guy’s hand, therefore recognizing the person as Jin. I think she always was infatuated with Jin, thought of him as an Angel or sorts due to Jin saving her once before. Seems like she will be the type of character that always has to be saved… The fight stops abruptly once they recognize it is Jin, apparently he looks out and protects the poor people around the area, therefore is pretty well known by them. Times must have gotten pretty hard for Jin and Akemi, who he now calls Aunty. She is selling crepes on the sidewalk and seems not to be too successful at it, and they now live in a run-down shack. Jin does bodyguard work to earn money and tells his aunty that he should get a part-time job but she won’t stand for it (at least in the manga, she wants him to finish school).
Jin smells something and goes off in search of it. He finds it at the site of a raging fire and it is the out of control player that is starting the fires who Jin smells. I guess these creatures can smell one another because the fire player could tell Jin was like him and was coming. Meanwhile, Kouga and Konoha are at this big Kouka Junior High Soccer Team celebration put on by the Amagi family, which is pretty much some sort of PR thing for Kouga, the Amagi Corporation heir. He is asked what he wants to be in the future and Kouga states he wants to be a “Hero of Justice”, which of course nobody takes him seriously. BUT, some of the Amagi Electro employees do take him seriously and develop all sorts of tech toys and stuff for Kouga to do battle against wrongdoers, and tonight is the night that they start patrolling. Kouga drags his sister along and off they go to the first emergency, which turns out to be the fire that Jin is at, now battling the fire player.
Kouga does meet up with Jin in the burning building and together they find a family trapped in the fire. Kouga wants to leave the unconscious mother behind and just take the kids, but Jin tells Kouga that he doesn’t know what is like to grow up as an orphan. Jin plops the family onto a bed, tell the kids to hold on tight to their mother then drops them down a hole in the floor while Kouga is freaking out. By the way, all this is happening with Konoha listening in through Kouga’s microphone. Jin ditches and Kouga leaves via a zip line but it breaks causing Kouga to crash into the downstairs room where the firemen are just about to uncover the family. The family is fine and the firemen think it is Kouga that had saved them and so does the media when they see him running out with one of the kids. Jin has found the player and is getting tromped by him, eventually getting pierced in the chest. This starts a change in Jin, which the player recognized and called a “Charisma”. Anyway Jin, now this Charisma/Zet creature, diffuses the player’s flames with a can of Kouga’s Anaerobic Spray that he left behind and permanently deals with the player. Apparently, Jin turns back to himself once the player is killed, but it all proves too much for him and he collapses. Konoha sees Jin fall and notices his necklace falling to the ground. She picks up the necklace as the firemen rush to Jin. Wonder what the significance of the necklace is, though it is the one his “grand pa” Kanzaki gave him.
In the hospital Kouga is trying to explain what really happened and what he was doing there. His father starts to scold him but the grandfather steps in and tells him that is ok to be a “Hero of Justice” as long as he seizes the power. I bet Kouga told them that Jin actually saved the family but his father and grandfather is going not going to anything about what the media and citizens believe. I wouldn’t want to be Kouga, stuck in a pretty tight spot here but I still think he is a weakling for not telling everyone the truth. Some hero… Konoha is pretty overwrought about Jin being in such bad shape and tells her mother that the person is the same one as before from when they were young. She could tell because of the angel ring on his hand. All this is going down while sneaky grandpa Mitsugai Amagi is listening in around the corner. He is all excited because now he believes he found his ZET after all these years! Jin gets kidnapped out of the hospital and wakes up to find the defective (they have been trying to make a ZET after Kanzaki left but have repeatedly failed) player holding his unconscious Aunty in his arms….
