Summary:
Senjogahara returns to the park with information from Oshino. She confesses that she could never actually see Mayoi but acknowledged her existence to avoid being thought of as strange.
Hitagi relays Oshino’s advice for Araragi to separate himself from Mayoi in order to solve his own problems at home as she is the disturbance, not the victim of one. Subsequently, Mayoi is revealed to be a ghost that was separated from her mother due to divorce and was killed in a car accident while trying to visit her for Mother’s Day.
Araragi argues vehemently to Senjogahara that he cannot just abandon Mayoi and was expecting to hear a way to help her get home instead. Hitagi knew that Araragi would respond this way and agrees to help him and expresses her feelings toward Araragi in the form of an english “I love you”.
The three finally arrive at the address on Mayoi’s paper, but the lot is empty and Araragi is unsure if they are at the right spot. However, Mayoi begins to cry and she runs into a wall of bright light shouting, ~tadaima! ~kaerimashita!
Hitagi and Araragi are now alone and Senjougahara asks for a response to her feelings. She says that she does not feel indebted to Araragi because he is a person that would help anybody in trouble. She tells him that she just enjoys talking to him and wants to have a chance to talk more together.
Araragi is unsure how to respond but asks her to make a promise to never pretend that she can see something that she actually can’t and to talk over their differences instead. She quickly agrees and Araragi decides that its time to go and begins to walk away.
Hitagi grabs his hand and tells him that she dislikes their unclear relationship. Araragi subtly responds by saying that it would be great if a relationship happened to form between them.
Thoughts:
A strong finish to the Mayoi arc. I wasn’t quite sure how it would all turn out, but the episode tied up all the loose ends of her sad story and gave a pretty satisfying conclusion to it. By the looks of it, Mayoi will be appearing in future episodes (weekly loli-con fix).
Senjougahara is becoming more and more interesting as the story progresses. She has definitely strayed away from the image of a typical tsundere and while she does not hesitate to bash Araragi she is very mature about her feelings and has the courage to confess her love. But if every tsundere-type girl was like Hitagi, lots of romance series would be over in 5 episodes.
Episode 6 is airing on only one station next week and is airing on the others the week after. What it comes down to is there will be a week gap until ep. 7 is aired. So until then we can all enjoy another few Endless Eight loops.
