Summary:
19 year old Sahashi Minato fails the entrance exam and is unable to attend college. As he travels home on the train, he sees the large building of the MBI towering over the city and begins to wallow in his misery saying that he won’t even be able to find a girlfriend. Right on cue, Minato hears a voice from above yelling at him to get out of the way. He looks up into the sky and sees a girl plummeting down towards him. They collide and end up in a very awkward position. The girl is being pursued and she grabs Minato’s hand as she runs away.

Minato wakes up in his apartment with the girl sleeping next to him. She wakes up and begins to take off her clothes, which gives Minato a nosebleed and forces him to retreat outside. He thinks about after they had finally escaped. The girl introduces herself as Musubi and passes out shortly after due to hunger. Minato brings her back to his apartment and buys her some hamburgers. Musubi tells Minato that she doesn’t have a home to return to and asks if she can stay at his apartment. He agrees and Musubi is extremely grateful saying that he really saved her. Minato begins to ask who the two girls chasing after her were but is interrupted by Musubi who says that she wishes that someone like Minato would become her Ashikabi.

Back in the present, Minato is confronted by his landlord and is asked who is in his room. Minato tells him that its his friend who came over to play. The landlord is suspcious and reminds him that the contract is for one person and any violation of that would result in him being kicked out. Musubi comes out of the room after the landlord leaves and tells Minato that shes really hungry and so they go to a restaurant to eat. Musubi tells Minato that she will make dinner and heads off to the supermarket while Minato goes to the bank. As he is walking down the street, Minato spots the two girls that were chasing after Musubi handing out balloons. They immediately recognize each other and the twins ask Minato where the Sekirei is. Out in the distance, Minato hears Musubi who forgot to ask what he wanted to eat. Minato tells Musubi to run away but its already too late and she is hit by a lightning bolt causing her clothes to conveniently deteriorate. Minato quickly grabs Musubi and runs into a nearby alley. Musubi begins to feel extremely hot and grabs onto Minato pushing him down onto the ground. Suddenly the twins appear from both ends of the alley, trapping them in. Musubi pays no attention to them and kisses Minato. She then begins to glow and wing-like projections appear behind her. Musubi then proceeds to fight the twins. However, they retreat to a nearby building and make their leave.

Back at the apartment, the TV suddenly turns on while Musubi is making dinner with the CEO of MBI on it. He begins to talk to Minato and begins to explain to him the Sekirei Project. Musubi immediately recognizes the man and greets him as professor. After the chat, someone from MBI arrives at the apartment and hands Minato a box filled with Musubi’s clothes to replace the ones that were destroyed in the recent battle. The landlord peeks into the room and sees Musubi, and they are immediately kicked out. They are unable to find another place to stay and end up at the park. It starts to rain and Minato asks Musubi why she chose him as her Ashikabi. She tells him that he is her special person and kisses him. She once again begins to glow and a huge tornado forms around them. Musubi flies into the air with Minato and tells him that the moon is really beautiful.

Thoughts:
I’ve read the manga long before watching this and they have pretty much kept with it for the most part during this episode, which is good. Overall, this series comes off as another average ecchi type action anime. Although, its hard to judge from just one episode and the manga is really good. The character designs are pretty good and the overall animation quality is above average. However, Sekirei is certainly lacking a bit in the music department (The OP was decent though). Despite my lack of enthusiasm for this show, it might turn out to be one of the better anime during this summer season, which seems to be a little lacking. Sekirei does have a lot of potential and I really want it to turn out good.
