I thought it was also very convenient that they were able to bypass the time folds using a device that Luca seemingly pulled out of his pocket. But then again if it wasn’t for that, Ranka would have had to bow in defeat to Sheryl in the never ending game for Alto’s affection. And where’s the fun in that? Just a note, if I was fighting a full out war with my life on the line, I probably wouldn’t drop my weapon and divert all of my attention away from the enemy to watch a concert. But that’s just me.
Despite the lack of any new or refreshing plot material, Macross did present the viewers with a nicely done concert scene <3 , once again intertwined with a dog fight. The sudden song change from Seikan Hikou to Aimo felt slightly out of place and in my opinion they should have kept with one mood. But, other then that the rest of the episode unfolded quite nicely. Slow motion ownage is always welcomed.
Sheryl pretty much got blocked hard this episode, which was kind of good in a way. I felt pretty bad for Ranka, who always had to play second fiddle to Sheryl’s superior femininity. It also occurred to me after this episode that Ranka would look infinitely better if she tossed out that poofy, handlebar-ish hairstyle in favor for something else. But she’s all about the “be yourself, don’t let anybody tell you what to do” idea, so I suppose that wouldn’t work. GOD.
Overall, I really liked the second half of the episode and the concert kind of caught me off guard, but not the SHnY type of offguard. But then again, you can’t compare that to anything since it’s on an entirely different level.

Despite this episode being sorta ridiculous, I still loved it
//I mean seriously, a “relief concert”?//
Well the planet itself looks banged up enough to deserve a relief concert, heck there’s even a Macross stuck waist deep in it.
//But then again if it wasn’t for that, Ranka would have had to bow in defeat to Sheryl in the never ending game for Alto’s affection.//
Actually both Sheryl and Alto would probably be dead from the guns of the Zentradi battleship.
//Just a note, if I was fighting a full out war with my life on the line, I probably wouldn’t drop my weapon and divert all of my attention away from the enemy to watch a concert. But that’s just me.//
Seeing that you are human with unfettered access to entertainment, that is obvious, however the Zentradi are not human. They are a race of 40 foot tall giants that were kept from any culture at all until they met humanity, and things like music, art, and so forth which we take for granted are a major shock to them when they initially come across it.

Actually the reason would more likely be that it would be more difficult for her hair to move on it’s own as it tends to do if she had a different hairstyle
