Clannad – 16

31Jan08

Brief Summary:
Mei-chan, Sunohara’s little sister, arrives and soon after, is tricked by Okazaki into thinking that Sunohara is GAR gay for him. Epic lulz ensue, especially after Sunohara arrives. But it’s all soon cleared up and the issue of the basketball game is brought up once again. Mei and Nagisa convince Okazaki to participate, even though he can’t shoot. For the 3rd member of the team, Okazaki and Sunohara get Kyou, who agrees readily. She, being her iinchou self, takes leadership of the team at Sunohara’s dismay.

The match arrives. Nagisa, Ryou, Mei, Kotomi, as well as the music club is there to watch. Kyou also has her own cheerleading section, because she’s so epic. The Basketball Club chooses their freshmen team to play, not thinking too highly of the Drama Club team. Right at the start of the match, Team Kyou (aka Drama Club Team) takes control of the match with Okazaki’s quickness, Sunohara’s passing, and Kyou’s 3-point shots. Okazaki’s plan is to score as many points as possible against the Basketball Club’s noobs so that the real team can’t make up the point difference. At 5 minutes left, the score is 25-14, Team Kyou in the lead. The real Basketball Club members have been analyzing Team Kyou’s strategy and play style, putting a lot of pressure on Kyou and Sunohara, knowing that Okazaki can’t shoot. From the constant coverage, Kyou can’t pull off her 3-point shots, and Sunohara is running low on stamina. Also, at less than a minute left, they take the lead at 26-25. At the final seconds of play, Sunohara goes up for the winning lay-up but is totally blocked. His only option is Okazaki, so he passes. Going all out, Okazaki tries to shoot but is knocked backwards in his jump. While he falls to the floor, he recalls his time with Nagisa and her club. When he thinks all is over, Nagisa calls out his name, telling him to shoot. He lobs the ball up in the air with both his arms, and in a miracle shot, it goes in. Everyone watching cheers, but are interrupted by a teacher who tries to bust them. All the Nagisa and co. run away, being cheered on by the spectators who follow them outside.

Thoughts:
Really spectacular episode. Best so far? mmmmmm… perhaps. It’s certainly the least solomn. I really enjoyed it… you can tell by the number of screenshots. I usually only take about 20-25, but this it’s like 42! Well, I needed to take some epic pictures of other things. For example, Sunohara’s reaction to seeing Mei.

Also, Kyou’s epic epic epic tsundere reaction to when she was asked if she liked Okazaki.

I thought it resembled Kagami a little bit…

And when you mention Kyou, you can’t avoid her appearance this episode. Pony Tail FTW. POOONYYYY. Also, gym shorts. /facepalm. KyoAni… when did you get so ecchi?!! Oh wait… always.

I also liked this screenshot. Because, yknow… it looked cool.

I also liked this screenshot… because Kotomi looks so epic.

Unfortunately, Kotomi only got 2 lines this episode. I was sad. Other girls get so neglected when it’s not their arc. For example, even Okazaki, who would fix Kotomi’s garden, left her and Nagisa by themselves in the club room. Oh well, it’s only episode 16, still got 8 or so to go for epic things to happen.

Winner of this epicsode (I did not make a spelling error): Kyou. She had wayy to many ownage moments this week. Made up for her lameness in the later part of the Kotomi arc.

“Don’t get the wrong idea. These are just Giri Chocolates, okay?”

Just be glad Kotomi even gets an appearance. Most people probably didn’t even expect her to appear again after the end of her arc. If you ask me, Clannad is doing much better than most VN adaptations at still keep characters around after their arcs have concluded.

And yes, Kyou is made of immense amounts of win.

Kyou is definitely win, almost rivaling Tomoyo in terms of hawtness and epicness.

Unfortunately, Tomoyo is the only one for me :D
