OP

Summary:
Sakurai Yoshiyuki dreams that a girl confessed to him under a cherry blossom tree. When he wakes up he takes a glance at the clock and realizes how late it is. He rushes to get ready and startles his younger sister, Asakura Yume with is quick exit from his room. She complains to him that she’s hungry and tells him to make breakfast. Short on time, he uses his magic to create a wagashi for her to eat. Sakurai then gets a call from Sakura Yoshino who tells him to pick up some papers from her room. Before Sakurai has a chance to argue, she hangs up.
At school, Sakurai greets his friends with a hearty Ohaiyou! Koko has a crush on Sakurai and when he enters the room, Akane tells Koko to make sure asks Sakurai properly to go to the school festival with her. Koko is having second thoughts and so Anzu gives her a small push that brings her face to face with Sakurai. She is about to ask him when the class representative, Maya Sawai interrupts her and tells Sakurai to help her set up. He quickly responds by saying that he has to give a document to the principal and runs down the hall into the principal’s office. However, Sakura isn’t there and seeing how much of a mess the room is in he starts to clean it up. As he opens the closet to put a pillow away, he notices a flight a stairs leading down. As he is about to head down, Sakura enters the room. He hands the documents over to her and she thanks him for his work. She asks him who he’s going to the festival with. He says that it will probably be with his friends as usual. Sakura responds by saying that thats boring and that a school without love is like eating nabe without any dashi (soup stock) in it and she tells him to do his best. She then looks out the window and tells the girls to do their best.
The three guys and the three girls gather together and decide to go around the festival together. They do a lot of things and Sakurai and Koko seem to be having a lot of fun. As they are playing kingyo sukui Akane pulls Koko aside and reminds her of what she has to do. Later, Sakurai is asked what kind of girls does he like. He responds that he really doesn’t have a preference, and Wataru gets angry and says that its because he has two beautiful sisters. Just as he finishes saying that, Sakurai’s older sister, Otome walks past with a group of girls. She spots him and affectionately calls him Ototo-kun. She straightens out her brothers clothing but is taken away by her friend Mayuki.
The group disperses leaving only Sakurai and Koko. Realizing that this is her only chance she takes Sakurai to a cherry blossom tree. Sakurai remembers the exact thing happening in his dream that he had that morning and realizes that the girl that confessed to him was Koko. He thinks back to his childhood days with her and thinks that she is very important to him but he does not feel the same love for Koko as she does for him. But when he sees tears begin to well up in Koko’s eyes he quickly agrees to go out with her. Koko is relieved and extremely happy that he said yes.
Thoughts:
I have to say right now, that this is the first episode of Da Capo that I have ever watched. I neglected to watch the previous two seasons and have not touched any of the games. From this episode alone, Da Capo originally came off as a generic harem romance anime but then there was MAGIC and I was so amazed that I knew that this would be very special. not. But I can see a lot of potential within this series and am inclined to continue watching it for the time being. I am very fond of the Otoboku-ish character designs but the OP song leaves much to be desired. I did however enjoy the ED a lot more. I’m glad Koko is going to be the first one to get owned because I don’t really like her. :)
