Summary:
Simon and the Gurren Brigade arrive just in time to rescue Nia from being dissected by the Anti-Spiral for analysis. With Nia safe in the Lagann with Simon, The Gurren Brigade pull out all the stops and let loose with their full power. The Gurren Lagann becomes the Arc-Gurren Lagann, which in turn becomes the Chouginga Gurren Lagann. With the enormous amounts of Spiral Energy everywhere, the Chouginga Gurren Lagann transforms to become the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Unfortunately, the Anti Spiral has a similar spiral power machine. The two fight, and duke it out while standing on entire galaxies. The Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, however, isn’t powerful enough and just when they seem to have lost, Lord Gerome breaks off from the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in his Razengan and sacrifices himself to absorb the Spiral energy from the Anti Spiral’s attack to power up the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The two giant Spiral entities battle once again and they are evenly matched as drill after drill breaks on both machines. The Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and the Anti Spiral’s machine collide with eachother and in a brilliant flash of light, the Chouginga Gurren Lagann appears from the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann’s mouth and charges toward the Anti Spiral. However, it is restricted and attacked by the several drill arms that appear from the dark giant Spiral machine, and the Arc-Gurren Lagann blasts out of the Chouginga Gurren Lagann’s mouth to move closer to the Anti Spiral cockpit. More drill arms hold it back too, so the Gurren Lagann flies out of the Arc-Gurren Lagann’s mouth to attack. The Gurren Lagann is attacked by other drill arms, so Viral throws the Lagann as a last attempt using the first attack Simon ever created with Kamina: the Lagann Impact. Simon and Nia reach the Anti Spiral and drill through his body, finally achieving the goal sought after by so many of the Spiral Warriors that came before them.
Back on earth, Simon and Nia get married. However, just after they kiss, Nia fades away. Simon already knew that Nia was dying, and could not exist normally. She was made as the messenger for the Anti Spiral. Everyone is sad, but Simon already thought everything out. He gives his core drill to Gimmy, and lets Rossiu take care of the government and people. Simon dons his Gurren Brigade cape, and takes Boota and Nia’s ring with him as he walks away.
20 years pass after Nia’s death and humans have made huge skyscrapers and are expanding at a fast rate. As a Grapal squad leaves earth to go to the Chouginga Dai Gurren, Leeron and Rossiu wonder how Simon is doing. In the distance, a boy is helped by an aged man to open a coconut. They watch the Grapal squad fly into the sky, and the boy is amazed at the sight and wishes one day he could go too. The man says that “The lights in heaven are all stars,” and Boota appears out of the man’s coat. One of Simon’s eyes has spiral markings on it, and looks into the space as the Grapal squad spirals up into the heavens.
Thoughts
Sad ending. Not really. Nia’s dissapearing was sad, but not dramatic and ridiculous. They could have easily made it much more sad if people started crying and Coco-jii silently walked away or something. I was closer to tears at the ending with Simon and that boy looking to heaven with the epic awesome piano playing in the background. The fighting scenes in this episode was pretty cool. The evil guy threw galaxies like ninja stars. The most epic part was with the end of the fight. When the chouginga came out of the tengen and the arc came out of the chouginga and the gurren out of the arc and the lagann from the gurren and omg… That was so amazing and ridiculous that I was speechless. I literally couldn’t form words because it was so amazingly great. So incredibly nuts.

same here I am speechless. All I can say is this anime is EPIC!
The wedding brought me into tears, so sad Nia and Simon can’t be together for long. T~T
this show was so good i saw it all in a span of two days…i spent from 10PM to 6AM watching it then i went to school w/o sleep…. i was really… sad about it (i couldn’t wait to get to school to take my mind off of it)… i think i was more hurt them Simon. i mean i was expecting a happily ever after or Simon dies but Nia has a child or something along the lines but no… but i finally realized that this is a legendary end which i will never forget
It is so sad, I am watched the ending like 5 times already… it’s just so sad that Simon didn’t get together with Nia and he wasn’t rewarded with anything.
I was sad at her dying but under the circumstances I understood it, it seemed like it wasn’t just done to be assholish but it had reasoning. Then I thought since Simon and Yoko had lost everyone that they’d eventually get together, flash forward 20 years and…I was pissed. After everything they went through..Yoko is rewarded with a man chin and Simon is a bum HERMIT!! Its like they waited till the last possible chance to screw us over, that was so out of Simon’s character it seemed like fan fiction. I just tell myself that the 20 year time skip didn’t happen.
HAHA I felt the same as Jimcha. If they’d left if hanging we could have come up with our own ending (like I thought since the ring landed at Yoko’s feet she’d get married to Simon at some point or something). Oh well, doesn’t matter – it was still EPIC
