The Japanese Tradition: Chopsticks (lol…)

06Sep07

So yeah, I one day I went to my friend’s house (he gets Japanese satellite tv) and he taped a whole segment on this program called “The Japanese Tradition” (Nihon no Katachi). It was the most hilarious parody of Japanese culture I have ever seen. He had taped a lot of different ones: chopsticks, bowing, visiting grandparents, what to do at a company drinking party, etc. It’s supposed to be making fun of those culture videos that show off the great aspects of Japan.

My favorite was a small part on Koushien. Koushien is a high school baseball tournament, that well, attracts many people. In the video, the narrator explains what it is, and the fact that many people flock to Osaka just to watch it. That’s why the tournament is called Caution (Koushien). Yeah, It might not be funny hearing about it… but it was damn funny when I watched it. Or maybe I just enjoy Japanese word play a little too much.

Well, I found the chopsticks part on youtube. Phoenix ftw!!

Wow, Phoenix style was awesome. Though I have to admit I was expecting something about the city, not the bird.
