Gurren Lagann – 20

12Aug07

Summary:
Simon is in jail and is attacked by an ex-henchman of Cytomander. Viral cuts in and shows off his invincible body that the Spiral King gave him by instantly regenerating his hand after beating up the henchman. Simon and Viral fight, but they are interrupted by the prison guards who send them off to their cells.
Meanwhile, Leeron and Rossiu run a simulation of the moon impacting the earth, and they realize, “wait, this is exactly like in Majora’s Mask!” And according to the simulation, the entire world would be affected, so people just couldn’t run away. Rossiu changes his plan to putting animals on the Arc-Gurren, to save the Earth’s species. Kittan sees this and realizes that the world is fucked. He goes to Rossiu to confirm this, and Rossiu shows Kittan the simulation, showing everyone is gonna die.
Kittan goes to visit his sister in the hospital, telling them to get on the Arc-Gurren soon. Just then, a bunch of Mugan attack, and Rossiu thinks it’s because they noticed the Spiral Power the Arc-Gurren has (it’s powered by the Spiral King’s head). One Mugan gets close to the hospital, and Kittan goes to fight it by himself. Kittan uses an awesome shotgun to get it’s attention, and when it fires, he is saved by Makken who is piloting his old Gunman. Reite also shows up driving a truck carrying Kittan and Dayakka’s old Gunmen equipped with Anti-Mugan weapons.
Kittan takes his Gunman up to the Arc-Gurren, which is trying to load as many people as it can. Kittan reasons with Rossiu and gets the Core Drill back from him. Kittan goes off, planning on giving it back to Simon. Meanwhile, Rossiu decideds to take off and leave some people in the city behind.
Simon, in prison, hears the launch of the Arc-Gurren, and thinks that Rossiu saved all the people in the city. Nia appears and shows Simon a videoclip in .mkv format of the people whom Rossiu left behind to die. She also shows him the complete destruction of the world after the moon impacts. A gunshot fires at Nia, interrupting her, and Yoko shows up with her plasma rifle.

“Hm, you’ve grown into quite a bitch, Nia.”

Thoughts:
Yoko! ftw! yeahh! Epic dynamic entry for Yoko in this episode. Hopefully she can own it up massively next episode. Too bad theres no human fights in this show anymore. Kamina vs Viral was epic back in the day. Simon vs Viral was dumb, it barely had any fighting. And I highly doubt there will be a Yoko vs Nia… Nia’s just gonna teleport away next episode. Like an abra or something…
Kittan was owning it up this episode. That one scene outside the hospital was pretty sweet. He was owned that Mugan with his shotgun… not really. lol, what would he do if his shotgun fire set off the Mugan’s bomb? He’d be screwed. I bet he didn’t think about if that happened.

Death Star?!

It makes me wonder what Viral is gonna do now. I don’t think he’ll join up with Simon… but maybe. If he wants to protect the world from devastation and unite the people within their nation or something.
So who’s left on earth? A bunch of random people that couldn’t get on the Arc-Gurren and the Gurren Brigade? lol. Things are gonna get pretty awesome.

Who is left on the planet? About 99% of the human race. Rossiu is off to save his butt and those of his closest followers (Jim Jones deluxe).

This is turning into a modern version of the “Seven Samurai” (forget that @#$%^ anime garbage version). The Gurren Brigade has been down, but they are back!

Where can i get the raw of the MKV video Nia showed Simon?? Is it a DVD rip of Rossiu’s??

    Great writeup : )

This arc is somehow managing to entertain through good writing because the staff is obviously saving on animation for arc 4. Big things up ahead!

Actually… Rossiu saved nearly 200,000 persons with his Ark considering the evacuation of Kamina city was 56% complete by the beginning of the episode. And I kinda agree with yh in the last part, the writing in this arc is excellent, much better than the Nia arc I have to admit as much as I loved that, but the animation is despite decent not on par with episodes 12-15… but 20 was for sure on the level of 1-3 despite everything I believe… even the background multitudes looked stylish this time around. Every one of the next 7 episodes should have plenty of visually top-notch action considering the animation directors are back to being top GL’s staff AND they’re produced by Gainax themselves while 18-20 where by Gonzo, Manglobe and FrontLine respectively.
