Ah, different story, same universe, same characters.
Changes from the anime:
1. Sirius died in a previous fight with the Angels.
2. Sirius was supposed to be the embodiment of Celiane and Apollonius.
3. The three pilots who fought the angels in Aquarion in the past are different.
–anime: Apollonius, Celiane, and the Commander
–oav: Apollonius, Celiane, and Scorpius
4. New character: Scorpius, betrayed Apollonius and Celiane in the fight against the angels.
5. Deava does not posses the original Aquarion ships like they did in the anime.
6. Deava, I think, only trains the pilots while the UN guys provide the mass produced Aquarions.
7. The original Aquarion ships are no where to be found.
8. Apollo has been living in the forest the entire time with his grandfather who recently passed away.
9. Apollo is angry with humans for destroying his forest and killing his plant and animal friends with their giant robot fights.
10. Reika is more of a main character. :D
11. All of the Angels except for Touma (yaoi angel) and Otoha (girl angel) are trapped in ice.
12. …idk I hope people will tell me some stuff I missed.
Similarities to the anime:
1. Many scenes are very similar (Apollo and the commander fighting, the crippled vampire girl still talks about verses from the Aquarion bible thing, a similar scene of Apollo naked with steam rising from his hot naked body, the commander slams his hands together, etc).
2. Character personalities are the same, for the most part. Reika doesn’t say much about misfortune as much as she did in the anime though. Silvia has that brother complex…but Sirius died, so…ya.
3. Same names of organizations and such.
4. Angels are still trying to take humans to make a garden grow bigger to awaken a god.
Summary:
With Sirius, Deava’s star pilot, killed in action, things aren’t looking too good for the rest of humanity. Many people are still being captured throughout the world and Deava can barely take out the attacking Cherubims. In a not-so-epic battle, Reika and Silvia’s ships are taken down and they land in a forest. While Pierre wants to go look for them, the commander calls them back because the energy packs for the fake Souseis are almost depleted.
Apollo finds Reika and Silvia and fights them. During the battle, Reika has a vision of Apollonius, Celiane, and Scorpius, which leads her to believe that Apollo is actually Apollonius. Apollo captures the two girls ties them up. Apollo locks them up in the cave where he lives and talks to them about the destruction they are causing to his forest. It is his duty to protect the forest, because they are all his friends and his grandpa told him to do it. The next morning, Apollo goes to the lake to bathe, while Silvia and Reika escape. The girls track him to the lake and check out his naked body.
At the lake, Reika spots some underwater ruins and goes to investigate them. Meanwhile, Apollo and Silvia begin to talk and they have a vision of the past. In the vision, Celiane is teaching Apollonius about human lifestyles while Scorpius watches. After the vision, Silvia suspects Apollo of being Apollonius. Touma arrives at the lake with his custom Cherubim and ignites the entire forest, to try and awaken Apollonius’ soul inside Apollo’s body. Apollo is infuriated and the light of Apollonius appears from his body. With the light, the original Aquarion ships fly out of the ruins in the lake. Apollo, Reika, and Silvia are transported into the ships and use Sousei Gattai to combine into Aquarion Solar. An epic fight between Aquarion and Touma occurs and the episode ends right when Apollo’s Infinite Punch connects to Touma’s Cherubim.
Thoughts:
Ah, I thought this was gonna be a second season… oh well. An oav is fine too. Yes, as I’ve said before, this is pretty much most of the stuff I liked in the original anime but more. The only thing missing is probably…the humor. Well, it’s not like it needs it. Yeah, what am I saying. No need, no need. That one cosplay episode of the anime was just hilarious though. This oav is still awesome: there is the same quality of robot fight scenes, and the same gattai sex.
I think I like this story more than the anime’s though. This time, Apollo actually is Apollonius, there are more scenes with Reika (who is awesome), and more fun fight scenes with robots. Too bad Pierre will probably be forgotten in the oav. Haha soccer + fighting = win. And just like Mai Otome Zwei, Sousei no Aquarion will be released once every 3-4 months. Sousei no Aquarion: Wings of Glory will be released in the Fall.
Oh, and if you couldn’t tell by now, Reika is my favorite character. Her misfortune lines were emo, but thats okay since she’s awesome. I’m happy that she got a bigger role in this oav… but she will probably get owned in the end. Right now, they’re making it seem like Silvia is Scorpius, and according to mythology, Scorpius betrays Apollonius and Celiane. However, if this story does follow the anime’s, then Celiane will probably be Silvia, because she looks exactly like her. Reika looks exactly like Scorpius too. Nooo! I wanted a good Reika x Apollo ending … but this is all my speculation. Please feel free to comment.

“aa~ fukou da”

I forgot about this!
*Goes to dl*
edit: the fighting was pretty rediculous…
I watched this last night, I had forgotten it was a spin-off rather than a continuation and was a bit confused to start with. Still turned out good and can’t wait till Autumn for the next ep (which ANN says is the last :(, 2 50 min eps is better than no new Aquarion atleast)
Gattai sex WOHOOO!!!!!!
