The Gurren Lagann Connection

29May07

First off, At the beginning of episode one we see a couple of very interesting things:

The Gurren Brigade Insignia on the cape.

The drill key.

A mysterious man.

A large battleship.

Later on we see:

The Dai-gurren.

Gurren Brigade Insignia on a flag.

The conclusion that is drawn from this is very obvious. At first I thought that it was Kamina’s father at the beginning of episode one. But now I’m 99% sure that the man is actually Simon in the future. The drill key is one obvious clue. The Gurren Brigade was created during the course of the show and thus, the scene must be in the future. The battleship could most likely be an upgraded Dai-Gurren and the appearance of the man is somewhat similar to Simon. A woman’s voice which sounds like Yoko’s is heard, and the man uses the same phrases that Kamina would.

Similar hair, bandage wrap thing is still there although its around his waist instead of his neck, same jacket/no shirt dressing style. Both have the red ribbon thing. (Not shown in first pic, but it is wrapped around his waist)

Now that I’ve pointed out the obvious this brings about the question of how Gainax will conclude the series. Will they skip a few years and end with Simon when he is older? Or will they completely disregard this first scene and continue on a normal time line.

Anyway the story is beginning to get interesting. I was wondering what would happen to Gurren Lagann after Kamina died, since he was the main plot driver, and now that Nia has been introduced into the fray, I’m very curious to see where Gainax goes with this. Gurren Lagann is quite possibly my favorite show of the season in the action category, Lucky Star being first in the comedy/romance category.

Well done, indeed. Now, were you able to predict the events of episode 8? ;) Anyone who steps back and looks at the story objectively for a second coulda seen it coming, IMO.

@Vertago – Haha ya he does. I kind of want a time skip too.

@gia – Yeah. Episode 7 made it pretty clear that Kamina was going to die.
